It has been a club since 1987, although, has been registered under other names before this time. Power Plus is a not-for-profit organization, affiliated provincially with the Alberta Weightlifting Association (AWA). It is currently located in the Southside of Edmonton; containing ten lifting platforms, two squat racks, a stretching area and a various amount of other equipment. This club has many levels of athletes, from recreational and first competition lifters to national and international competitors. Larry Mather is the head coach of Power Plus and has been involved in the sport since 1964. He has coached a number of podium level athletes at Commonwealth Games, many Canadian national champions and also athletes who obtained provincial and national records. His certifications include; B.Ed. plus three additional years of Phys. Ed., NCCP Level 3, NCCP Master Learning Facilitator, CSCS and AFLAC. In addition to Larry, Charlie Klaver is an NCCP Level 2 assistant coach who also helps with coaching on a regular basis. His lifting experience has been exceptional in many national and international events.
