The Clean and Jerk

The Clean & Jerk is the second lift performed in competition.  The weightlifter will take a shoulder width grip on the bar and lift the bar from the floor to their shoulders in one continuous motion.  From here the lifter will dip down and drive up hard using their legs and arms to force the bar overhead.  Most lifters will “split” their legs under the bar called a split jerk.  Other lifters will simply drive the bar overhead to lockout with no split referred to as a push jerk.
